It was chilly and stormy on our "Museum Day" so Kellan made sure his seal was warm and cozy in his shirt. Caleb on the hand was babysitting Crue's baby penguin and should probably be fired - you can see the penguin face planting it in the background.
We started off at the Air and Space Museum. Bumblebee greeted us at the entrance and the boys loved it!Checking out the Apollo exhibits.
Shaking hands with Charles Lindbergh.
I don't know why Kellan is posing like this... silly boy!
Caleb spent so much time looking at the different models and designs of planes.
When we first got there he said he wanted to build planes when he grows up and he would create one with three sets of wings. He thought it would make the plane fly easier and use less power. Well then we got to the part of the museum that had tri-planes. He was a little sad he didn't think of it first but then thrilled that his idea was a good one.
This was the actual replica of Amelia Earhart's Lockheed Vega plane, "Little Red Bus" that they used in the recent film "Amelia". Caleb thought it was cool but not as much as I did! One day he'll get a history lesson in Amelia Earhart!
They had a cool kid aviation room.
Playing with a flight simulator.
"Walking on the moon"
Caleb and I went in a hurricane simulator. It was windy. Haha the wind speeds got over 100 mph. Yuck.
Blue Angel!
Well after the air and space museum it was too cold and windy to do much else and some of the other things we wanted to see were closed because of the government but he happened upon the Rosecrans National Cemetery. It's huge! Caleb and I had fun reading some of the names of those buried there and seeing which wars they served in. Unfortunately the part that had WWI and WWII memorials was closed. It even had a Mormon Battalion memorial but it was closed too. What a bummer that government shut down was!
The sun came out for a bit so the boys wanted to play at a park near the bay. We looked for shells and sand crabs on the beach but it was still cold and windy! We hit the jacuzzi again that night, then had dinner and a movie night in our hotel room.
On our last morning in San Diego, we packed up and goodbye to Billy and Gracie the seals. Billy hung out by us the whole time.
Kellan still asks about them. He was so sad he had to say goodbye.
We hit the Natural History museum on our way out. We were deceived. The reviews online and then the size from outside gave us high expectations! The museum was okay but there wasn't a lot in it. The boys still had a lot of fun!
Learning about water conservation.
Learning about molecules
The Mammoth exhibit was actually really awesome. Too bad the rest of the museum wasn't similar.
He's being a creature in a cave.
Megalodon shark!!!
Caleb spent so much time in this part of the mammoth exhibit. Scientists found a baby mammoth frozen, mummified and preserved in the ground. They figured out her whole life story and she's on display now. She was only two months old when she fell in a mudhole and choked to death. Caleb wanted to know everything about her. He talked about her for days. He was saddened and fascinated by her story. He's such a sensitive soul.
They had a bone and skull exhibit. Caleb liked it of course, this was his favorite display.
After the museum and before heading back to Arizona we ate at Slaters 50/50 again! It was just as good! I still dream about their vampire dip. Well it was an awesome trip to San Diego! We were sad to go but can't wait until our next trip!

What an awesome vacation! I wish I could have gone to the museums with you too! I'm so glad the boys enjoyed it! Love, Nana
